The 30 Day Photo Challenge Day 1

I found this on Pinterest.

The Challenge was created by the blog Click it Up a Notch , a great photography website for newbies like me. I think it is the challenge is old- at one point I could of linked up and done it with a group of people, but now it’s just me, (unless you want to join me!) Any woo,  I loved the idea, and participating would push me to widen my subject matter beyond a certain red-headed toddler.

So I went and grabbed my camera, and the I looked at Day 1. Self portrait. Maybe I won’t start today. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe never. I just couldn’t wrap my head around capturing myself. I wasn’t dressed right, I’m not wearing make-up. I don’t know how to use the self timer, or even if the Rebel has a self timer. Then I realized… This is exactly why I should do it. So I focused on my reflection, I took picture of myself in every mirror in the house,  I used spoons, a pizza cutter, even the rear view mirror of my car. Here’s the one I think was most successful:

At first I felt like I was cheating, not only am I hiding behind the camera, but I’m out of focus; The I realized that I this photo best portrays all the doubt and hesitation I was feeling about this little project. And maybe right now, my life is just a little out of focus (whoa- things just got really deep.)

So I am glad I did it. I learned a little about myself and I also  learned that every single one of the mirrors in my house needs a little Windex love.
